Hallo Leute. Schön, dass heute, am Tag der Befreiung, so viele Leute gegen Rechts auf der Straße sind.
Wir von Copwatch Leipzig wollen ein paar Sachen zu rechten Strukturen in den sogenannten Sicherheitsapparaten sagen und klar machen, warum die Polizei abgeschafft gehört. Das Bild der Polizei als “Freund und Helfer” ist allgegenwärtig – seit über einem Jahrhundert hat sie es gefestigt. Gerne betont die Polizei, wie wichtig sie ist, um uns zu schützen. Wir sagen: das stimmt nicht, und es hat noch nie gestimmt.
Die Polizei wie wir sie heute kennen gibt es erst seit dem Anfang des 19. Jahrhunderts. Ob im Kaiserreich, der Weimarer Republik oder während der NS-Herrschaft: Die Polizei diente von Beginn an dem Schutz der jeweils herrschenden Ordnung. Das tat sie durch Moralkontrolle und Disziplinierung von abweichenden Gruppen. Das tat sie duch die Kriminalisierung und brutale Verfolgung der Arbeiter:innenklasse, von Sozialist:innen und Kommunist:innen, aber auch von Sexarbeiter:innen, Armen Menschen, Obdachlosen, und sozial ausgegrenzten Gruppen. Das tat sie wenig später dann durch die Verfolgung, Verhaftung und Ermordung von Millionen Jüd:innen, Sintizze und Romn:ja, Homosexueller und queerer Menschen, Menschen mit Behinderungen und nicht Arbeitender Menschen. Nach dem 2. Weltkrieg hat, zumindest in Westdeutschland, nie eine echte Entnazifierung stattgefunden, in der Polizei genauso wenig wie in der restlichen Gesellschaft. Die Deutsche Polizei steht in direkter geschichtlicher Folge der Gestapo – mit dem Argument des „Fachkräftemangels“ wurden Nazi-Kader nach Kriegsende wieder in den Apparaten der jungen BRD eingesetzt. Nur wenige NS-Täter:innen wurden zur Rechenschaft gezogen, der größte Teil konnte seine Arbeit unbehelligt weitermachen, besetzte Machtpositionen, lebte die gleichen Normen und Wertevorstellungen wie zuvor.
… und heute? Die Polizei schikaniert jeden Tag Schwarzen Menschen und Menschen of Colour durch rassistische Kontrollen. Sie schiebt Menschen in den sicheren Tod ab, um die Festung Europa aufrechtzuerhalten. Sie überbietet sich selbst bei der Repression von linkem Aktivismus, bei der Aufstandsbekämpfung auf politischen Aktionen. Sie verwendet einen Großteil der Zeit darauf, prekäre Menschen zu kriminalisieren, wenn das Geld nicht gereicht hat, um ein Ticket zu kaufen… und war da nicht auch noch irgendwas mit den Fahrrädern? Rassistische Übergriffe, Gewalt und Morde sind nach wie vor an der Tagesordnung. Und die Polizei schaut nicht nur weg, indem sie systematisch rechten Terror ignoriert, sondern sie schaut auch zu und ist teilweise selbst daran beteiligt – Stichwort „NSU 2.0“. Die Verstrickung der Polizei in rechte Netzwerke ist mittlerweile so offensichtlich, dass niemand sie ernsthaft leugnen kann: Wenn also von bedauerlichen Einzelfällen gesprochen wird, ist das der Versuch, das strukturelle Problem zu verdecken: Dass die Polizei schon immer auf dem rechten Auge blind war, dass Diskriminierung ihr nie fremd war und deshalb auch nicht verdächtig vorkommt. Und es ist der Versuch, sich von der eigenen Geschichte, insbesondere den NS-Verbrechen freizusprechen. Sie sagen “Bedauerliche Einzelfälle”, wir sagen “das hat Methode!”
Zum Kern der Polizei gehört auch die Cop Culture: Das bedeutet soldatische Männlichkeit, Kameradschaft und Freund-Feind-Denken. Das bedeutet demonstrative Härte, Eskalation, Gewalt und Diskriminierung. Und das bedeutet die Unfähigkeit zur Kritik und Angriffe auf Kritiker:innen. Wir glauben daher nicht, dass sich die Polizei reformieren lässt.
Der Blick in die Geschichte zeigt: Die Polizei entstand, um eine rassistische und kapitalistische Gesellschaft zu stützen. Auch heute schützen die Cops bürgerlich-weiße Interessen und das Kapital, indem sie alle anderen diskriminieren und unterdrücken, Leute aus ihren Wohnungen schmeißen und Obdachlose verjagen. Unterm Strich bedeutet die Polizei für viele nicht Schutz und Sicherheit, sondern Gefahr und Gewalt. Wir sagen deshalb: Polizei abschaffen – Abolish the police! Der Laden muss dichtgemacht werden und die Täter:innen endlich zur Rechenschaft gezogen.
Sicherheit müssen wir selbst organisieren, indem wir Communitys aufbauen und diese pflegen und kollektiv Veantwortung übernehmen statt auf eine Veränderung der Polizei zu warten. Das muss heißen: Soziale Sicherheit für alle, nicht den Schutz weniger auf Kosten aller anderen. Wie das konkret aussehen könnte, wollen wir aus Zeitgründen hier nicht ausführen. Ideen gibt es genügend. Und wenn es nur ist, die rund 1 Milliarde Euro, welche die sächsische Polizei im Jahr zur Verfügung hat, in soziale Initiativen, Kriseninterventions-Teams und psychologische Ersthelfer:innen zu stecken.

Hello everyone. It’s nice that so many people are on the streets against the right today, on the day of liberation. We from Copwatch Leipzig want to say a few things about right-wing structures in the so-called security apparatuses and make clear why the police should be abolished. The image of the police as friends and helpers is omnipresent, it has been consolidated fopr over a century. The police like to stress their importance in protecting us. To this we reply: that is not, nor has it ever been true. The police as we know them today have only existed since the beginning of the 19th century. Whether in the German Reich, the Weimar Republic or during the Nazi regime: from its beginning, the police served to protect the prevailing order. It did so by controlling morals and disciplining dissenting groups. It did so by criminalising and brutally persecuting the working class, socialists, communists, but also sex workers, the poor, the homeless and socially excluded groups. It did so through the persecution, imprisonment and murder of millions of Jews, Sintizze and Romn:ja, homosexual and queer people, people with disabilities and non-working people. After the Second World War, no real denazification has taken place, just as little in the police as in the rest of society. The German police stands in direct historical succession to the Gestapo. Claiming a “lack of specialists”, Nazi squads were reinstated in the apparatuses of the young FRG after the end of the war. Only few Nazi perpetrators were brought to justice, the majority were able to continue their work unmolested, occupying positions of power, living the same norms and values as before. … And today? The police harass black people and people of colour every day through racist controls. They deport people to certain death in order to maintain Fortress Europe. It outdoes itself in repressing left activism, in counter-insurgency at political actions. It spends much of its time criminalising precarious people when there wasn’t enough money to buy a ticket… and wasn’t there something about bicycles? Racist attacks, violence and murders are still part of the daily agenda. And the police do not only look the other way, systematically ignoring right-wing terror, they also watch and are involved in it themselves. Keyword “NSU 2.0”. The police’s involvement in right-wing networks is now so obvious that no one can seriously deny it: So when people talk about regrettable individual cases, it is an attempt to cover up the structural problem: That the police have always been blind to the right, that discrimination has never been foreign to them and therefore does not seem suspicious. And it is an attempt to absolve itself of its own history, especially the Nazi crimes. They say “regrettable individual cases”, we say “there’s a method to it!” Cop culture is another part of the core of the police: that means soldierly masculinity, comradeship and friend-foe thinking. That means demonstrative harshness, escalation. Violence and discrimination. And it means an inaboility to respond to criticsm save attacking on critics. We therefore do not believe that the police can be reformed. A look at history shows: The police arose to prop up a racist and capitalist society. Even today, cops protect bourgeois white interests and capital by discriminating against and oppressing everyone else, kicking people out of their homes and chasing away the homeless. The bottom line is that for many, the police do not mean protection and security, but danger and violence. We therefore say: Abolish the police! The place must be closed down and the perpetrators finally brought to justice. We have to organise security ourselves by building and maintaining communities and taking collective responsibility instead of waiting for the police to change. This must mean social security for all, not the protection of a few at the expense of all others. For lack of time, we do not want to go into detail here about what this could look like in concrete terms. There are enough ideas. Even if it’s only to put the 1 billion euros that the Saxon police have at their disposal each year into social initiatives, crisis intervention teams and psychological first aiders. In recent years, criticism has become louder and louder and people around the globe are campaigning for the end of the police.
